Where is your Treasure?

“If you want to be perfect [whole], go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” Matthew 19:21

The story before this scripture is about a rich man that feels like "something" is still missing even after all his wealth. Jesus tells him to to be perfect, or made whole, to sell all his possession.  The
man left sadly, because he is not willing to do it.  His treasure is in his riches, and not with following God.

At first glance of this scripture it is easy to say...Oh I'm good I'm not rich, this doesn't allow to me.  BUT step back and look at the bigger story.  This man's treasure was his money & things that me owned that he was not able to part with to follow God. Could this story be for anyone that won't let go an abundance?

Is our treasure food that we are not willing to part with?  We don't want to give up those donuts, fries, cookies, cupcakes,
pizza and pop?  But then the guilt and low self esteem afterward can be so overwhelming.

God does not want us to stay in a place of defeat, so our food might just be our treasure and we need to give it up and lay it at His feet.

Dear Lord, I admit that there are plenty of times that I am overweight physically and underweight spiritually. Help me to give up anything I crave more than You. I want to redirect my misguided cravings to You because You are the only one capable of satisfying them. In Jesus’ name. Amen. - Prayer from Made to Crave

My Story
Most of you know that I ran a small at home custom design cookie bakery before I became a coach.  And let me tell you I was ADDICTED to sugar.  I did not even realize how bad it was until I really stopped eating it.

I literally had WITHDRAW like Headaches, cravings and I just didn't feel good as I was detoxing my system!  So, yes in my mind if you are going through those types of symptoms when trying to get the sugar our of your system...then I think sugar is bad stuff!

My topic
How to WIN the Sugar Craving Battle
With clean eating we stress the importance of staying away from processed sugars.  But did you know that sugar is also hiding in your food naturally.

I was reading a book and did you know that SUGAR is in bacon?!?  I had no IDEA! Why?  Why would you need sugar with bacon?  I was surprised that sugar is sneaked into SO many of our foods!

You can avoid sugar overload by reading this article and paying attention to the sugar content of the foods you eat. CHECK THE LABELS for the sugars on the nutrition and ready the ingredients!

Log your food to help keep you in check.
Use apps like the 21 Day Fix App, Fitness Pal, a food journal, or even take pictures on your phone of everything you eat.

Being aware and mindful of sugar is going to help you when it comes to reaching your weight loss goals. Below are a few posts I did when I was researching more about sugar and the addiction of it!

IF you have Netflix watch the show Sugar Coated! It is kinda crazy how much sugar we consume.

Recipe of the Day: Slow Cooker Apple and Pork Tenderloin

I love simple crock pot meals that warm your belly after a long day working or watching your kids play sports. Enjoy!

Fun Fact:
Brown is Best
Eating the polished white part of rice or wheat is a mistake. Grains and produce have come to us from nature dressed to the nines, wearing bran, germ, husk, fiber, peel and more. When we eat the ENTIRE food we gain the complete package of goodness nature intended for us.

It's FRIDAY...why SHOULDN'T I indulge?

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Psalm 139:14A

You are chosen.
You are treasured.
You are cherished.
You are fearfully and wonderfully made.

“In it’s proper content, eating is not the problem. God gave us food for nourishment, strength, and even celebration.  The problem comes when pleasure is unrestrained.” Lysa TerKeurst Made to Crave

Food is not the enemy.  Whether you’re overweight or not.  Food is wonderful and a gift from God.  It’s our insatiable desire for it that becomes the problem.  There are clear times in my life that I craved, desired, thought about food a lot!!

There are STILL times that I do and struggle. I am a constant challenger in my challenge groups.  If someone were to ask me how many times I ARRANGED my life around food, I would be unable to answer.  Countless times!

Suffering from Hypothyroid issues I am held accountable to EVERY bite I take.  Every pound I lose is a struggle.  I constantly have to watch what I eat, or suffer the consequences or an upset stomach or a gain on the scale.

Food was my comfort.  Food was my happiness at times and food was my comforter during sad at times.

We have mentioned this before, but honestly EVERYTHING is centered around food.
Think About it....
Upset - Comfort Food
Happy/Celebrate - Go out to dinner
Need to unwind - Glass of wine
Ball Games - Hot Dogs
Birthdays - Cake and Ice Cream
Weddings - Dinner, Cake and Ice Cream
Baby Showers - Cake and Ice Cream
Teacher Appreciation - Showering with yummy foods
Corporate Meetings - Breakfast, Lunches, Dinners, Drinks, Desserts
Good Grades - Dinner, Dessert
Funerals - Comfort Food
New Baby - Meal Train
Kids Sporting Events - Concessions - chips, pop, hot dogs, candy
the list can go on and on...

I realized it IS something I needed to surrender to HIS control.  And God has revealed more to me on this journey than ever in my life. Through my personal transformation and as I help others as a coach, I have been forced to rely on HIM for strength and guidance.  I discovered that pursuing a healthy lifestyle was one of the most significant spiritual journeys of my life because I want to be present and there for my family and do the will of God.  And I hope you are discovering the same.

Prayer for the day: Dear Lord, if I’m being honest with myself and You, I know sometimes I rely on food more than I rely on You.  I want to re-calibrate my soul and change for the right reasons.  I want to see You in and through this entire process.  Please be with me, Lord, each day.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen. - Made to Crave Prayer

It's the Weekend!! And we all now they are HARD!!
So, think about the Faith section above and IF we are indulging this weekend for the right reasons.
Is what we are eating going to give us that feeling of guilt afterwards? Then it is not worth it!

Friday Quick Tips:

Make a Meal Plan and Grocery List before shopping! Find one HERE! Find a Blank Meal Planner HERE! (or in the FILES section of our group)

Grocery Store Tips: Shop the perimeter, stick to the outer walls of the store, avoid middle aisles! Think, all the freshest foods such as fruits, veggies, meats, are kept on the outer walls.

Make a plan to only shop the perimeter first and then work your way through the center aisles. By the time you get to the center aisles your cart will already be full to the brim with fresh eats!
Keep focused while browsing the center aisles. Food choices tower over you on each side. It is not necessary to shop every single aisle, skip it if you don't need anything down it!
In the frozen food section, stay away from anything that says "one step", "heat and serve or ready to go" meal in a box!
Learn to read nutrition labels and ingredients list. If you can't pronounce some of the words or if they look like they belong in a science lab, put it back on the shelf!

Stay away for things that say "Low-Fat" or "Sugar Free" they are LOADED with chemicals and preservatives.

Make your own salad dressings!
When buying canned foods look for low sodium versions, salmon and tuna packed in water, and no extra sugars.

I hope this helps!

It's MORE than just Exercise

"Therefore, because of you the heavens have withheld their dew and the earth its crops." Haggai 1:10

“If we are honest, we have to admit it: we make time for what we want to make time for.” Lysa Terkeurst

I don’t know about you, but I haven’t spent a whole lot of time in the book of Haggai….

An interesting story in the Haggai about people taking care of the temple. Before the Holy Spirit was given to us and our bodies became temples, the Spirit of God dwelt in structures like a tent-like sanctuary called the tabernacle and the original temple was built by King Solomon in Jerusalem.

During the time of the prophet Haggai, God’s people had returned from being in exile in Babylon. One of the first things they set about to do was rebuilding the temple. They started with great enthusiasm and wonderful intentions, but slowly slipped back into complacency and eventually stopped their work on the temple altogether. Other things seemed higher priorities — more urgent, more appealing.

Haggai says:

This is what the LORD Almighty says: “These people say, ‘The time has not yet come to rebuild the Lord’s house.’ “ Then the word of the LORD came through the prophet Haggai: “Is it a time for you yourselves to be living in your paneled houses, while this house remains a ruin?”
Now this is what the LORD Almighty says: “Give careful thought to your ways. You have planted much, but harvested little. You eat, but never have enough. You drink, but never have your fill. You put on clothes, but are not warm. You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it.”
This is what the LORD Almighty says: “Give careful thought to your ways. Go up into the mountains and bring down timber and build my house, so that I may take pleasure in it and be honored,” says the LORD. (Haggai 1:2 – 8)

God was greatly burdened that the people were so carefree with this sacred place.

Don’t you imagine he is just as burdened when we don’t care for these amazing bodies that house the Holy Spirit today?

Don't we start off with great enthusiasm with Week 1 of our journey...and slowly slip back a little if we don't see results right away? We tend to do the same thing and "think" other things have higher priority.

How quickly we set aside our own health for the business of life!  Raising kids, work, paying bills, just day-to-day activities.  But the truth is just like Lysa said. We make time for what’s important to us.

Prayer for the day: Dear Lord, I want to care for my body in the ways I eat and in the ways I move.  Help me to see the ability to exercise as a gift.  I dedicate my temple to You and commit to start rebuilding it today.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen - Made to Crave Prayer

Just like the Jews of Babylon.  They found time to panel their own homes, but the neglected God’s. And what are the  results for us when we neglect our bodies?

Health problems, poor attitude, higher cholesterol, wrong mindset... The list goes on!!!
But what if we dedicate our meal plans and our workouts to God and treat this body like the temple it is? We will see great changes and rewards!

And YOU are changing!! Whether or not you see if on the scale or measuring tape yet… you are already better, stronger, faster, and most importantly, HEALTHIER than you were when you first started! Stay the course! If you got off track, set your mind to make today a better day!!

IF this is your FIRST round with me:
5 DAYS AWAY FROM YOUR 30 DAY PICS! Can I just say that I am so proud of all of you! Even if you haven't been able to get your workout in each day you are still making more positive choices than you were before!

IF this is your 2nd to 1,000th round with me:
I want you to really thing about today's message.  Did you start strong, but lose momentum?  Do you need to rededicate to the program?  I think we need to do those month pictures too to help keep us on track.

Core de Force

What could you accomplish in just 30 days? How about getting into knockout shape — with a workout designed to help you drop serious weight, carve your entire core, and leave you feeling empowered!

With CORE DE FORCE, Joel Freeman and Jericho McMatthews give your customers the ultimate mixed martial arts-inspired workout to help them get knockout results in 30 days.

Here is some of the scoop I learned from the Creator and Trainer of the Program Joel Freeman.

Interview with Joel and Jericho
What inspired you to create this program?

Joel: Jericho and I wanted to create a program that brought in our love for the MMA training world and enable anybody, anywhere to train like we do. The physical and mental benefits of authentic MMA-style workouts are incredible!

What can customers expect from CORE DE FORCE?

Jericho: A super fun, results-driven workout that will blast your core and shred your entire body using fight-style combinations and simple, but highly effective conditioning exercises that'll make you feel invincible!

What makes CORE DE FORCE unique?
Joel: We packed authentic MMA-inspired moves and interval training into a 3-minute round structure. This allows everyone to work at their own pace, learn the combinations, and spike their heart rate all within each round!

Is CORE DE FORCE choreographed to the beat of the music?
Jericho: No. We wanted everyone to go at their own pace—while keeping the workout as authentic as possible. But we love working out to music, so we made sure that Core De Force had awesome music to reflect the intensity of the rounds!

Do you need to know how to do martial arts to do this program?
Joel: Nope! Jericho and I teach all the breakdowns of every move, no matter your fitness level. There's even a ‘Learn It & Work It’ video before every workout that also breaks down technique and form to maximize your results!

Who is the ideal CORE DE FORCE customer?
Jericho: Anyone who is ready to fight for a better version of themselves!

What if I'm a beginner, can I still do CORE DE FORCE?
Joel: Absolutely! In CORE DE FORCE, everyone can work at their own pace! In each workout there's a modifier that shows a less intense move option. Also, Beachbody® On Demand will have a dedicated "modifier window" feature which gives you a constant view of the modified moves!

Is there a nutritional component to CORE DE FORCE?
Joel: We made sure the CORE DE FORCE nutrition plan was just as fun as the workouts! There are some of our favorite healthy food recipes in the plan—like BBQ chicken pizza and JalapeƱo Cheese Burgers! And since CORE DE FORCE is a higher intensity program, you'll get to eat more than you think!

What kind of results can I expect from CORE DE FORCE?
Jericho: It's a core-blasting, fat-torching, full-body sculpting program. You'll tighten and tone everything and become stronger from the inside out. You'll also increase your cardiovascular fitness, endurance, speed, agility and coordination—and your confidence!

Coming October 31st

 • 30 days of mixed martial arts-inspired workouts that slash inches off your waist, blast belly fat, and sculpt total-body definition—no equipment needed.

Every Step Counts to Stay in Victory

"Just as you used to offer yourselves as slaves to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer yourselves as slaves to righteousness leading to holiness." Romans 6:19

“Victory isn’t a place we arrive at and then relax.  Victory is when we pick something healthy over something not beneficial for us – again and again.” Lysa TerKeurst Made to Crave

Oh my goodness.  This was so difficult for me for SO LONG! I was totally that girl who would diet and workout until I got to my goal and then I was DONE! Diet gone! Exercise turned sporadic!

I thought I had achieved victory! Boy, was I wrong.
Back to my old ways of eating because I "deserved it" and BOOM before I know it back to were I was again.

It was just a yo-yo effect.  I would put plenty of things into my body that just led me back to the same place over and over again! But I learned that just like Lysa says, true victory is making the right choice over and over again no matter where I’m at!

We are always ONE choice away...
ONE choice away from reversing our progress and ONE choice away to become closer to those goals. YES, those Cheetos will matter if you are adding in an extra treat right now.

I'm not saying you don't keep to have a treat here and there...I'm all about the 80/20 Rule and Balance!  But sometimes we get off balance and sneak a few things here and a few thing there and we don't even realize we are far off from the 80/20 Rule. (Read more about the 80/20 Rule HERE)

And JUST like the small GOOD changes add up for success SO DO the small BAD changes add up to sabotage!

Work for that treat, don't snack on kids leftovers or be tempted on all the yummy things in the break-room.  You are stronger than think!

Prayer for the day: Dear Lord, I am challenged to ponder what is pulling my heart away from You.  Help me to live in a place of balance and to embrace what You have for me today.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

POST YOUR WATER CUP throughout the day in the Group.

Today is all about water! How many ounces of water can you drink in a day! What is YOUR daily recommended intake of water?

Here is your assignment! I want you to take your body weight and divide that in half. That is how many ounces you should aim for each day. Figure that out and drink away!

Example: 150lbs/2 = 75.....drink 75 oz of water

Recipe of the Day: Slow Cooker Pear and Balsamic Chicken

Did you know you can put frozen chicken in the crock pot?
Yep! It works perfectly and I do this a lot.  I always keep frozen chicken in my freezer if there are days I did not make it to the grocery store on time or we just got back from a trip or getaway!!
(I also keep 70 calorie - low sodium - tuna packets on hand for that reason too.)

Fun Fact:

Skip the Juice - Eat the Orange

Think about how many oranges are needed to make a glass of juice
How many you normally just eat for a good balance of portion control.

YOU need way more oranges to make a cup of juice!

Sugar in its natural fruit form is great and gives your body fiber and vitamin C. When you drink orange juice you get all the sugar, very little fiber and fewer vitamins and your body reacts quickly to the sugars and stores them as fat.
