The story before this scripture is about a rich man that feels like "something" is still missing even after all his wealth. Jesus tells him to to be perfect, or made whole, to sell all his possession. The
At first glance of this scripture it is easy to say...Oh I'm good I'm not rich, this doesn't allow to me. BUT step back and look at the bigger story. This man's treasure was his money & things that me owned that he was not able to part with to follow God. Could this story be for anyone that won't let go an abundance?
Is our treasure food that we are not willing to part with? We don't want to give up those donuts, fries, cookies, cupcakes,
pizza and pop? But then the guilt and low self esteem afterward can be so overwhelming.
God does not want us to stay in a place of defeat, so our food might just be our treasure and we need to give it up and lay it at His feet.
Dear Lord, I admit that there are plenty of times that I am overweight physically and underweight spiritually. Help me to give up anything I crave more than You. Most of you know that I ran a small at home custom design cookie bakery before I became a coach. And let me tell you I was ADDICTED to sugar. I did not even realize how bad it was until I really stopped eating it.
I literally had WITHDRAW like Headaches, cravings and I just didn't feel good as I was detoxing my system! So, yes in my mind if you are going through those types of symptoms when trying to get the sugar our of your system...then I think sugar is bad stuff!
