Okay so now that you have purchased all your food and you have your meal plan it is time to get to work! I like to do this on the weekends but a lot of other people do it twice a week (like on Wednesdays and Saturdays) Find what works for you!
My main thing is being able to recruit the family for help! The kids can wash fruits and veggies, wash dishes, help with simple tasks. The hubbies are great to chop things and grill. You can do most of the dirty work, but if you ask for help you may be surprised to find that this is a fun family activity you can all enjoy together!
Start by setting up your workspace! I take out all my kitchen appliances and have them handy. Clear off my kitchen counters of items I don’t need. Place garbage cans nearby for easy access. Take out multiple cutting boards to use for meats, veggies, etc. Organize your workspace and you will be much more efficient and get more done in less time 🙂
Start by chopping all your fruits and veggies. Calculate how much you need for all your recipes and cut everything at once (I like to use my food processor) A veggie chopper will come in handy here if you own one.
Have the hubby turn on the grill and send him out with a tray of seasoned chicken and some
homemade turkey burgers (throw some fish on the grill and eat it for dinner tonight)
Brown rice, casseroles and sauces freeze great!
Crockpot meals can be thrown together in a freezer bag and frozen then just throw in the crockpot the morning of the day you plan on eating it.
Throw cut veggies in the right portions in plastic baggies to have them quick and ready to go (I like baby carrots and celery for Hummus)
Place washed and cut up fruit in clear
containers at eye level in your fridge for quick easy access.
PREPARE AS MUCH AS YOU CAN AHEAD OF TIME and you will see how much easier your life is 🙂
You can thank me later!
Short little video about my family and meal planning and going to the grocery store
Here is a video of what my food prep looks like for programs using 21 Day Fix containers. I personally am doing InsanityMax:30. You can see my round 1 results here.
Here are some items that I prep just about every week!
Now dinner and lunch prep goes a lot faster because everything is washed.
2. Snack Bag Tip
Here is what it looks like in the little snack size baggies. This way we can all grab and go for any snack or lunch. It takes a little time on the prep day, but then this helps ensure that all the healthy food actually gets eaten and not rotten in those produce bags! Thanks so much for reading!
