Just like knowing the truth about Jesus sets us free in our spiritual lives, knowing the truth about what we are eating helps us in our fitness goals.
Prayer for the day: Dear Lord, help me to make lasting changes in how I eat. I know You care about me and long for me to live in a place of peace with this struggle. I believe Your truth will set me free. IN Jesus’ name, Amen. – Made to Crave Prayer
Truth sets us free…
Don’t we all avoid counting calories and looking at the labels sometimes. I had convinced myself that if I didn’t know what was in my food, then I wasn’t really doing anything bad for my body. My husband would read the labels and I would tell him not to tell me! I wanted to stay blinded. I thought it was better NOT to know. Embarrassing and stupid, but true! It’s time for the truth and knowledge will help us reach our goals.
There are so many online calorie calculators. I like Fooducate. You can scan a barcode on a product and it tells you everything!
But honestly, reading labels (read more here) goes a long way. I look for foods that are fresh and in their whole form or at least have fewer than 5 ingredients.
Also, here are some good facts for us women, from The Gene Smart Diet:
1. Women should include 25 grams of fiber per day in their diet. Some of my favorite fiber rich foods are avocado, beans, whole grain cereals, kale (put it in your shake if you don’t like it), apples, and almonds. Fiber helps you feel full and keeps munches away!
See a list here of higher fiber food choices to use with the portion control plan.
2. Studies show drinking 16 ounces of water first thing in the morning reduces caloric intake by 20%. (read more about my water intake and schedule HERE) Drinking warm lemon water first thing also has proven to increase your metabolism.
Recipe of the Day: Santa Fe Turkey Salad with Avocado Crema Dressing
Set it up as a Taco Bar and pick and choose your toppings depending on what containers you have left or planned for the meal!
The dressing is so good!
Don’t be fooled by advertising! Don’t fall for the words such as “diet,” “fresh,” “organic,” “added nutrients” and “new” you STILL need to READ the labels. They are words used to entice the consumer to purchase the products.
